We continue to see an increase in illness at school.  We thank all the parents and guardian’s who are keeping children home if the have any symptoms (fever, vomiting, etc.).  We have been in contact with Public Health, and have been monitoring absences closely.  Our custodial staff is taking extra care to wash surfaces down.  Please continue to enforce proper hand-washing techniques with your children.

Public Health has provided the following link for information on Seasonal Viral Infectionshttp://chd.region.waterloo.on.ca/en/researchResourcesPublications/resources/Seasonal-Viral-Infections-Common-in-Schools.pdf.  We encourage our families to review this.

Once again, here is an excerpt from the front of the planner:

“Children who are ill are best kept at home.  Sending a sick child to school may spread the illness to other students.  We have very limited facilities to accommodate an ill child.  An illness or an injury can happen at any time and our first concern is to give immediate attention to the student.  If the injury is minor in nature, the student receives first aid at the school and when ready, returns to class. If there is doubt about the injury or illness, the parent is contacted immediately.  This underlines the importance of an accurate and up-to-date Student Data Sheet, which parents complete in September and are asked to update during the year.  Please note that it is imperative that you always provide the school with up-to-date phone numbers so that we can contact you in case of injury, sickness or an emergency.”

As always, a call to our attendance line is required.  The number is 519-743-6331, option 1. You can call and leave a message 24-hrs a day.  We do ask that absences (for any reason, even lates) are reported to the attendance line before the start of the school day at 8:50 a.m.  This allows us to make timely calls for the safe arrival program to ensure the safety of all our students.
